Alleviating childhood hunger one Birdie Bag at a time
Many families are facing food insecurity- some for the first time and families with children are being hit the hardest. Our mission is to help children overcome disadvantages to become the best champions of their own lives- one Birdie Bag at a time.
What is a Birdie Bag?
A Birdie Bag consists of 9 meals, 6 snacks, a toiletry kit and a toothbrush every 3 months. These bags are sent home with children who rely on the schools for their breakfast and lunch throughout the school year as well as in the summer. This helps ease their anxiety about where their next meal will come from when they are not in school.
Our Birdie Bag program started in 2013 sending home 135 Birdie Bags to one school in Kent, Ohio. Today we are in 12 school districts in northeast Ohio, serving Portage, Summit and Stark counties and sending home over 5,600 Birdie Bags a month. We have an army of volunteers who help us pack Birdie Bags and we work closely with each school district to ensure every child that needs a Birdie Bag is receiving one.
We hope you, your friends and family will join us in our fight to alleviate childhood hunger. We want each child to beat the odds and compete in the game of life.
